Cockatoo Creek runs through the middle of town, and the Emerald to Cockatoo walking and cycling trail follows the old railway formation through Nobelius Heritage Park to Emerald Lake Park, a popular spot for picnics, paddle boats and cockatoo and king parrot sightings. Cockatoo Recreation Reserve hosts the local football and cricket clubs, and Alma Treloar Reserve is home to a community garden that residents tend together.
